Maezumi Roshi Memorial Sesshin July 20 eve. — 26 2008 Led by Roshi Egyoku Nakao Literally translated, sesshin means “to unify the mind.” It is an extended, silent retreat in which most of the normal schedule of the Center is set aside to allow for a more focused zazen practice, integrated with walking meditation, face-to-face meetings with a teacher, work practice, chanting, rest, oryoki meals, and talks. Once a year we are holding this sesshin in memorandum to our Founder Maezumi Roshi. Sitting this sesshin is manifesting his heritage to us. Maezumi Roshi Memorial Service July 27, 8:30 in the Buddha Hall Sustainability Workshop Series: Radical Recycling Saturday, August 2, 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Organized by the Brown-Green Group and led by Deborah Tull. Deborah Tull is a sustainability coach, who helps people to green their homes, businesses, and lifestyles. She has been engaged in sustainable living and environmental education for 15 years. She has traveled the world studying sustainable communities and spent 7 years training at the Zen Monastery Peace Center, a model for the practice of Peace and Sustainability. Rakusu Sewing Class Saturday, August 2, 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. Led by Evi Gemmon Ketterer Instruction in sewing a rakusu, Buddha's Robe, for those who are preparing for the bodhisattva initiation ceremony with a Zen Center teacher. Participation by those who need to repair an old rakusu or who wish to sew one as a gift is also encouraged.
